Summary
This is the ground of the ceòl mòr 'MacDonald of Kinlochmoidart's Lament' (no. 1) played on the practice chanter.
Following this, the contributor relates how he learned the tune from John MacColl of Oban and Glasgow in 1920. He was frequently taught by him. John MacColl had been taught by John Bàn MacKenzie and by Sandy Cameron. Many of MacColl's pupils were only interested in winning prizes at competitions and so favoured the Piobaireachd Society style, but the contributor was only interested in the old Gaelic style. He describes himself as a "Pro-Gaelic Crank".
