Summary

James V, disguised as a beggar, has a tyrannical laird beheaded.

James V set off disguised as a beggar to visit his subjects, whom he had heard were being ill-treated. He met a girl who was to be married the next day; she was crying because the laird had a law that he had to have every bride on her first night. The beggar persuaded the girl to let him attend the wedding, and he sat down in the laird's chair at the feast. The laird ordered the beggar to be beheaded, but the king revealed his identity and had the laird beheaded.
