Summary
The contributor's mother could remember older girls going out to the sheiling, although she herself did not go. The huts were stone-built, with wood and thatch made from rushes on the roof. They used to stay for a week at a time, from early summer until well into the autumn. They made butter and cheese for the household, and some information is given about how this was done.
The contributor recites a fragment of a sheiling song.
