Summary
May Day, sheep shearing, Halloween and Hogmanay.
Before the contributor's time, young people used to visit a wishing well on Schiehallion on May Day.
Up to thirty men would gather to shear sheep and afterwards they would compete at throwing the hammer and putting the stone. The contributor describes Halloween customs when he was a boy, including a bonfire and guising. At Hogmanay people went from house to house, each with a bottle [of whisky]. The first foot took coal or salt herring; he or she should not be red-headed or have splayed feet.
