Summary
Lord Randall comes home from hunting feeling unwell. His mother asks if he has had supper, and he says he has had fishes, which were black-backed with white bellies. She tells him he has been poisoned. He agrees. He says he will leave his horse and saddle to his father, his purse and sovereigns to his mother, and to his sweetheart a rope and leather to tie her to a tree as she was the cause of his poisoning.
Martha Reid had the song from her grandparents and great grandfather.
Item Notes
8 verses. Interesting text, especially the last verse where "thy poisoning of me" appears to suggest that the mother is complicit in his death.
